What does Positive Behavior Support look like
here at Orange River Elementary?
1.
We use school-wide expectations in specific
setting to TEACH students appropriate behavior.
2.
We use reward systems to encourage positive
behaviors and effective consequences to discourage
inappropriate behavior.
3.
We use data to help track progress and
identify areas to target interventions.
4.
We have a discipline referral process that is
consistent throughout the school.
Although we are focusing on Positive
Behaviors, there will be consequences for inappropriate
behaviors. We still have the hierarchy of intervention and
referral process.
Hierarchy of interventions:
1.
Verbal warning – Reteach the expectation that
we not demonstrated
2.
Think Time for 5 minutes in classroom
3.
Think Time for 10 minutes in another
classroom (written intervention)
4.
Phone call home/ contact made with parents
5.
Referral to the office
Referral process:
1st referral Phone
call home
2nd referral Phone
call home/ referral sent home to be signed by parent and
returned to school
3rd referral Conference
with parent
*Student will automatically be sent to the
office with a referral for a serious offense such as, but
not limited to:
·
Physically dangerous behavior (assault,
fighting, etc…)
·
Any illegal act.
·
Insubordinate behavior/open disrespect to any
staff member.
·
Refusing a consequence on a class discipline
plan.
TICKETS!
TICKETS! TICKETS!
Students
will earn tickets for doing the right thing. They can
receive tickets any where on campus – lunchroom, media
center, hallways, classrooms, any where they are caught
doing the right thing.
They can
redeem these tickets for prizes at the PBS Store on their
100 Book Challenge Days. Some classroom teachers also have
treasure boxes that they may also be able to redeem tickets
at.
Prizes will
include but not limited to toys and trinkets, fun pencils
and notebooks, and there will also be BIG prizes that they
can save tickets for such as CD players, Bikes, etc…
At the
beginning of each month there will also be a PBS Party when
students can redeem their tickets for skating, movie day,
field days, and much more. Each month the party will change
and students will be told what they are working towards and
how many tickets they will need to attend.
