Orange River Elementary follows the
curriculum adopted by the Lee County School Board. We are a
Title I school, and as such, place an emphasis on reading,
math and writing. The curriculum also integrates Spelling,
Language, Handwriting, Science, Social Studies, Health,
Computer Technology, Physical Education, Art, Music, and
Guidance. We have part-time classes for the Specific
Learning Disabled (SLD), Gifted and Bilingual students. We
have full-time classes for the Emotionally Handicapped, and
Pre-K.
Qualifying as a Title I school entitles us to
additional funds. Each Title I school has flexibility in
determining the resources needed for the improvement of
learning for their students. At Orange River, the staff and
parents developed and implemented the Roaring Readers
Program in 1995. The successful components from the
original program have been included in our new Title I Plan
which has been approved for 2000 – 2005. The following is a
